Pablo Mielgo, orchestra conductor from Madrid, is a world citizen with an entrepreneur spirit and one mission: to make music accessible for everyone. He is the current director of the Orquestra Simfònica de les Illes Balears (OSIB), but has been hired by orchestras around the globe. He studied in the Conservatorio Real in Madrid, then  Colegio Reina Sofía and the London Guildhall School of Music. Moreover, he has built a network of musical friendships from Berlin to Qatar, and from Lucerne to Los Angeles, with renowned musicians who now enrich the OSIB’s concert programmes.

Pablo Mielgo has been assistant conductor to James Conlon, Jesús López Cobos, Daniel Barenboim and Claudio Abbado, among others. He regularly conducts at the great European stages, such as Wiener Musikverein, New York’s Carnegie Hall, and also in Latin America and the Middle East. Mielgo works in a very tight artistic collaboration with orchestras like Symphony Simón Bolívar, Arena di Verona and Qatar Philharmonic, with Juan Diego Flórez, the Labeque sisters, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Julian Rachlin and Radovan Vlatkovic.

Since 2005, he is the artistic and musical director of Fundación SaludArte, which aims at social change through music. Mielgo launched several musical events with great international acclaim, including the Spain-Venezuela Festival, Madrid International Music Festival “Madrid me suena”, a tour of the Orquesta Juvenil Iberoamericana around Spain and the USA, IberOpera and the programme “En vivo, conectando el mundo a través de la música”. He has collaborated with institutions such as Teatro Real de Madrid, Miami New World Symphony, El Sistema in Venezuela and the Florida Grand Opera, along with top artists like Plácido Domingo, Gustavo Dudamel, José Antonio Abreu and Michael Tilson Thomas, to name a few.

Pablo Mielgo is specially devoted to promoting new young talents. Since 2011, he is the artistic director of the Medellin Philharmonic Orchestra, where he struggles to provide young musicians with access to musical education, independent of their parents’ income. Besides, Mielgo has founded three juvenile orchestras, since 2003: Orquesta Juvenil Presjovem, bringing together the best young Spanish musicians; Orquesta Juvenil Iberoamericana; and Armonía Spymphony Orchestra; and, in cooperation with Sir Colin Davis, he founded the BandArt Orchestra.
