The minister of European Fons, Universitat i Cultura, Miquel Company, today presented “Estius Simfònics”, a cycle of nine concerts that the Illes Balears Symphony Orchestra will offer between June 30 and August 10, in the “Pati de La Misericordia Palma”. The program includes the soprano Nadine Sierra, the tenor Xabier Anduaga, the pianist Iván Martín, the oboist Lucas Macías, the soprano Pretty Yende, the Mallorcan violinist Francisco Fullana, as well as soloists from the Salzburg Festival and the Hamburg Opera.
«The Symphony remains committed to the Balearic culture and society and, after successfully closing a difficult season due to the circumstances of the pandemic, it does not stop and also offers the traditional“ Estius Simfònics ”cycle with proposals that will allow us to enjoy the tributes to the Amics de s’Òpera de Mao and Joan Pons, as well as the performances of the soloists at the Salzburg Festival and the Hamburg Opera, among others “, explained the minister, who thanked the Consell de Mallorca for the transfer of the La Misericordia space. The change of location from the Bellver Castle to La Misericordia will allow the full participation of the Symphony following the Covid protocols.
Company has explained that, of the nine performances, four are lyrical: the concert in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Amics de s’Òpera de Maó (June 30); Soloists from the Salzburg Festival (July 6) with Tamara Bounazou, Carmen Artaza, Marvic Monreal, Josh Lovell, Doman Krizaj and Peter Kellner; Joan Pons’ 75th anniversary celebration with soprano Pretty Yende (August 4) and Hamburg Opera Soloists (August 10) with Marie-Dominique Ryckmanns, Kady Evanyshyn, Simon Yang and David Kang. For these evenings, arias from El Barbero de Sevilla, Turandot, Rigoletto, Don Carlo, El Elisir de amore, Candide and Las Boda de Figaro will be performed, among others.
In addition to these four lyrical concerts, the public will be able to enjoy a diverse program with other performances: the oboist soloist and conductor Lucas Macías (July 15) with works by E. Grieg, J. S. Bach and A. Schönbere; the pianist Iván Martín (July 29) performing the concerto for piano and orchestra no. 19 by W. A. Mozart; and also the proposal ‘A dream without a violin’ (July 22), in which the Symphony will perform pieces by L. Spohr, J. Rodrigo and J. Brahms. The concerts will be conducted by Joji Hattori and the head conductor of the Symphony, Pablo Mielgo.
One of the main novelties offered by “Estius Simfònics” is the opportunity to see the Majorcan violinist Francisco Fullana (July 8), as well as as a soloist, as the director of the concert with a program consisting of Serenade no. 6, “Night Serenade” by W. A. Mozart; Violin Concerto “Grosso Mogul” by A. Vivaldi and Divertimento for String Orchestra, Béla Bartók.
The manager of the Symphony, Pere Malondra, has highlighted the work carried out since the pandemic and the effort so that the music of the Orchestra reaches all the Islands with programs such as Sonam per tu with 17 concerts for this summer.
For his part, the head conductor of the Symphony, Pablo Mielgo, has remarked that the “Estius Simfònics” program “accommodates young people” with concerts with soloists from the Hamburg Opera and the Salzburg Festival.
